The great curassow is one of the largest and most impressive ground birds of tropical forest. The male is black with white belly and a curled crest; the female varies in brown, barred or reddish patterns.

Crax rubra
It walks on the forest floor and also climbs to branches to roost or feed. It eats fruits, seeds, shoots and invertebrates. Sensitive to hunting and forest loss, seeing it on trails often indicates protected areas with low disturbance.
